I Am Feeling Anxious

Understanding Anxiety

Everyone feels a certain level of anxiety or panic now and again; it’s natural in certain situations and is our body’s way of ensuring that we stay safe.

However, if feelings of anxiety or panic attacks are starting to affect you more frequently, or you are starting to avoid some everyday situations for fear of feeling anxious or panicked, it’s time to get help.

Feeling anxious and panic attacks are manageable. If you want to feel more in control, we can help with the right talking therapy or support for you.

What Causes Anxiety?

Everyone experiences anxiety differently, but some people find it hard to control their worries. Their feelings of anxiety are more persistent and can often affect your day to day life.

Anxiety can be the main symptom of several conditions, including a panic disorder. We can feel anxious or panicked for a number of reasons, including when we experience a traumatic or very stressful experience such as bereavement, bullying at work, or losing a job.

Sometimes there can be a very good reason for why we feel panicked but other times there may be no reason why the panic has happened.

What are the Symptoms of Anxiety?

Everyone’s experience of panic and anxiety is slightly different.

But someone with panic disorder can have feelings of anxiety, stress, and panic regularly and at any time, often for no apparent reason.

Sometimes people experience panic attacks, which can last between five minutes to an hour, and can include symptoms such as:

Panic attacks are unpleasant and lots of people say they have feelings of dread, or fear dying from the symptoms. This can have a huge impact on our physical and mental health too.

If panic attacks are happening regularly, you can also experience agoraphobia. This is an anxiety-related problem that can cause us to fear a situation where the panic attacks are happening and try to avoid these places.

Both panic and agoraphobia can have a huge impact on your quality of life and affect things like your work, home life, and relationships with friends and family. But they can be managed.

If you want to confidently control your levels of panic, be equipped with practical tools to do this, and stop avoiding certain social situations, we can help with the right talking therapy or support for you.
