What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Unlike some other talking therapies, cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) deals with your current problems, rather than focusing on your past.

In cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions, you can talk through any negative feelings with a therapist who will consider the links between your thoughts, emotions, physical feelings, and actions.

CBT can help you cope with problems that feel overwhelming by breaking them down into smaller, more manageable parts. Cognitive behavioural therapy can help you to change negative thought patterns to improve the way you feel.

We offer CBT across Kent and Medway. Our cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) can be delivered in a group or individually, face to face or online video call, or using our typed text-based digital app, or via a webinar.

How is this Therapy Delivered?

We offer CBT therapy in three main ways:

Guided self-help

Guided self-help is based on cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and helps you to focus on your goals. You will independently work through materials and learn new techniques to improve how you’re feeling.

Sessions usually run every week and last up to 30 minutes. At the end of each session, you will work with one of our psychological well-being therapist to agree on actions and goals for you to complete before your next session to help you get the most out of the treatment.

Traditional CBT sessions

Traditional cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) sessions start by agreeing on what you would like to talk through. You’ll then work with your therapist to set a range of tasks to complete outside of your weekly session. You’ll practice the coping strategies you have learned in sessions in your own time. You’ll monitor your progress and continue to develop your skills until you’re feeling more confident.

At the end of your treatment, you’ll work with your therapist to create a ‘staying well plan’ that you can use as a toolkit for your future mental wellbeing.

Digital CBT

Digital CBT (sometimes known as computerised, cCBT or online CBT) is a cognitive behavioural therapy that is delivered online or via a secure online platform.

It’s completely confidential and you can access the sessions at any time, so you can fit therapy around your life.

You will be offered regular reviews with one of our fully trained therapist to check your progress and answer any questions you may have.

Digital CBT has been proven to be just as effective as face-to-face forms of therapy.

These can be delivered in a group or individual face-to-face session or over the phone, via an online video call, using our typed text-based digital app, or via a webinar.
